Middle Eight Covent Garden Announces the Inaugural Art and Culture Programme in Partnership with Artscope

For immediate release | 9 Sept 2024: Middle Eight, the luxury hotel nestled in the heart of Covent Garden, is thrilled to announce its partnership with esteemed global fine art consultancy, Artscope. This collaboration marks the beginning of a cultural initiative that will transform Middle Eight into a vibrant hub for contemporary art enthusiasm, education and expression.

This initiative will launch on Thursday 3rd October, in line with the highly anticipated Frieze Art Fair, with a dynamic and immersive arts programme that reflects Middle Eight’s commitment to fostering creativity and innovation. Curated by Artscope’s Founder and Managing Director, Kate Fensterstock, the programme will feature a hotel-wide group exhibition of artworks, a performance presentation and a series of London excursions that offer visitors guided access to the city’s greatest art spaces.

Opening receptions, previews, guided tours and panel discussions will run from Thursday 3rd October through Saturday 5th October, where guests can truly feel immersed and engaged in the offering. The exhibition of artworks will be open through the end of November, in line with the highly anticipated Frieze Art Fair and supporting this crucial period in the cultural calendar.

Kate Fensterstock, Founder and Managing Director of Artscope, expressed her excitement about the collaboration, saying, "We envision Middle Eight as a discerning curator, a compassionate educator, and a source of inspiration at the epicenter of London’s cultural scene. This partnership allows us to create a space where great practice can thrive, and visitors can find resources to learn, explore and engage in an immersive and luxurious environment.”

The concept behind this inaugural initiative is driven by the shared values and objectives of Middle Eight and the artistic community. Entitled Urban Oasis, the programme reflects ideals around symbiosis between nature and the manmade.  The visual cues, design, materials, theories, debates and techniques all engage a particular framework that is rooted in ecosystems; exploring how they work before creating potential to preserve our environment, culture, and community.

Middle Eight is proud to engage core components of the hotel’s sustainability policy, which seamlessly align with the approach of the artists featured in this programme. All participating artists will be announced as the project evolves, but Middle Eight and Artscope are are pleased to confirm the support of Orlanda Broom in the exhibition. Co-Founders of Candid House Projects, Nicole Huter and Raphael Tecucianu, have been working closely with Kate Fensterstock to suggest artists from their programme which align with the Urban Oasis curatorial concept. “Raphael and Nicole have an excellent eye for talent, identifying many artists just as they are about to hit milestones in their careers,” Kate commented. "I was confident we would work well together in selecting strong representatives of the Urban Oasis ethos.”

"Middle Eight has always been more than just a hotel; it’s a space where luxury meets inspiration," says General Manager of Middle Eight, Botho Stein, "Our collaboration with Artscope allows us to deepen this philosophy by integrating the highest quality of contemporary art and culture into the heart of our guest experience."

Throughout the launch week, which kicks off on October 3rd, Middle Eight will host a series of exclusive events including an invite-only opening reception, a public performance preview followed by a Q&A with the artists, and guided tours of the hotel’s art installations. Guests can also participate in a bespoke London Art Itinerary, curated by Kate Fensterstock, exploring the city’s most renowned galleries and museums.
